Less Commonly Taught Languages (C. Herron & D. Tuten)
Program Home | Upcoming Events | Past Events
The Languages of Difference initiative articulates
a proposal from the Emory College Language Center (ECLC) and
the Program in Linguistics for a program in the study and
understanding of less commonly taught languages and dialects
(LCTL). Problems of linguistic communication across ethnic
and racial difference are marked in the Atlanta area, as they
are generally in the U.S. and the world. Reciprocally, there
is a strong and demonstrated need reflected in many requests
by Emory students for help in the learning of languages and
dialects through hands-on tutoring from members of Atlanta’s
diverse ethnic communities.
Accomplishments in academic year 2007-2008
- The RDI “Dialogues Across Difference” program in “Less Commonly Taught Languages” (LCTL) has hired Marjorie Pak for the RDI-supported LCTL Lecturer position.
