Graduate training in African American Studies is key to cultivating a new generation of scholarship concerning race and difference. In tandem with the advanced scholarship afforded by the recent Department of African American Studies, the new James Weldon Johnson Institute, the Professorship of Civil Rights, and the stipend support for a new graduate program in African American Studies is crucial.
